Bug Description

Binary package hint: network-manager

When I boot my computer, i expect to have my ethernet network connection up and running.

Since I updated to Karmic, i have the following problem:
At the system start-up , eth0 is up, but does not achieve to get an IP address, the only solution i found is to run "sudo dhclient" in a console.

I don't know precisely from where this come from, but I'm ready to help to investigate.

Regards,

Tim

Can you please run the following command from a terminal:

apport-collect 450388

Also, can you open the Connection Editor ( right click on the applet, select "Edit Connections" ), then:

1. click the Wired Tab
2. select the connection ( it should just have Auto eth0 )
3. click "Edit"
4. click the IPv6 tab

"Method" should be set to "Ignore". If it's not, please let us know as we're trying to track down an upgrade problem related to this setting.

Changed in network-manager (Ubuntu):
status: New → Incomplete

Hi !
I just did what you asked.

The IPv6 method was set to "Automatic". I switched back to "Ignore".
I'll keep you informed of the result.

Thanks for adding the info.

Could you also let me know if you upgraded this system from Jaunty, or if you did a fresh install of Karmic?

A couple more questions...

When did you run the upgrade? Alpha6? Beta?

Also had you modified your Ethernet connection in any way ( ie. anything in /etc/network/interfaces )?

I updated during Alpha 6 , i think i has benn end of September.
But i think that this problem appeared later.

I have not modified anything in /etc/network/interfaces , but when that problem occured I switched a few parameters in the network-manager (within gnome and xfce).
