Bug Description

Binary package hint: network-manager

Hi,

network-manager is still highly annoying due to its long list of shortcomings. I've reported several problems to ubuntu's launchpad and the upstream developer (see http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=582214 ).

Unfortunately, the developer seems to be rather ignorant regarding network requirements and too red-hat-oriented (he works for Red Hat and thus is bound to their configuration system, ignoring the ubuntu/debian way to do it). Furthermore, he seems to be a desktop developer and not really experienced with networking, and to deny everything beyond his own experience. Maybe they are sort of jealous, because debian/ubunt has a better and more powerful network configuration environment.

I'd therefore propose to abandon Network-Manager and to write a real graphical frontend for /etc/network/interfaces, ifup, ifdown etc., that smoothly fits into the known network environment.

regards
Hadmut
