vmplayer in 9.04: no network connection

Bug Description
With vmplayer I want to use a natted connection on Ubuntu 9.04, all patches applied.
Unfortunately I get no network connection.
The error message is:
Could not open /dev/vmnet8: No such file or directory
Virtual device Ethernet0 will start disconnected.
The same vmplayer, same user/virtual machine works fine in 8.10
