Bug Description

NetworkManager / nm-applet:

This appears to be a simple design fault in that PPPoE is only available over "Wired" networks, and the defined PPPOE networks are greyed out when connected via "Wireless" and not "Wired" connections are available.

People in the wireless industry make extensive use of PPPoE connections via Wireless and there is no sensible reason to not enable connecting PPPoE connections when connected exclusively via "Wireless".

Same bug as https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/232172 in 8.04

Upstream aknowleges it but give no timeframe for resolution:
http://mail.gnome.org/archives/networkmanager-list/2008-November/msg00218.html

Worse, in 8.10 I've been unable to use pppoeconf to configure pppoe, since it just doesn't start, at least on the one system I've tried.

My bad. With pppoeconf it works.
