Bug Description

Binary package hint: seahorse

First, where is the documentation that gnome-keyring-manager has been replaced by seahorse? How about telling me about this change when I type gnome-keyring-manager like I used to. Google shows several threads in various places where people have the same problem. Very frustrating, and essentially a regression, to replace a program with something with a different name and not auto-redirect people who only know the old name.

Now on to my bug. I want to view the original WPA passphrase currently stored in my keyring for a particular wireless network. I used to used gnome-keyring-manager for this purpose and it worked.

It looks like this is supposed to be the "password/show password" drop-down in the "properties" dialog that comes up from each entry in the "passwords" tab in seahorse. However, when I do this all I see is a long apparrently hexadecimal string. That is not what I want. I want the original ascii string I typed in the first time network manager asked me for a password for this network.

It's showing a hash of the passphrase. The original is preferable as an easy way to look up the passphrase.

Thanks for reporting this bug. The same problem is happening in network manager see bug#239970
Since different programs are the cause of each program im not sure they should be marked as duplicates. Though it may make sense to mark both packages under one bug. I have reported this upstream to the seahorse bugtracker here http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=558743

Please subscribe to that bug and continue any relevant conversations there.

I believe NM is pulling the information from Seahorse since it's the
keyring manager.

I think you are right, however, it was reported under network manager
because the command 'xprop | grep WM_CLASS' reports the application as
nm-connection-editor.

Again though these discussions should be continued on the bugs at bugzilla
because that is where the developers are who are most likely to take notice
and do something about this. cheers

Setting package back to network-manager since the upstream bug says the problem is how NM is sending the passphrase to gnome-keyring-manager. They also pointed out that Seahorse does not manage the keyring and is only a viewer for gnome-keyring-manager.
