I can add that when I plugged in my windows mobile device NM detected it but a connection through NM never seemed to work. However my console based attempts would result in success.

I should be receiving a BB Storm 9530 tomorrow and will probably give this a try. Would really like a nice clean solution for tethering as well as using aircards but I'm not really expecting it.

I will note that it looks like there is some promising looking work done for BB users here:

you need to look at the output of lsusb/lspci and adjust 10-modem.fdi accordingly. (e.g. /usr/share/hal/fdi/information/10freedesktop/10-modem.fdi) ... there are plenty of examples already.

Note that it will only work for USB ... bluetooth is not yet supported by NM out of box, but will follow during next cycle most likel.y

upstream is working on blueberry support. for bluetooth we need bug 269329 first, so lets use this bug to track blackberry specifics. Blackberry is notoriously proprietary and do quite a few things different. anyway, 0.8 might have it (0.7.1 probably wont). so stay tuned.

Network-manager still doesn't recognize a blackberry, even connected by usb.

Should I open a new bug for usb-mode?

I don't have a blackberry anymore to test with, but doesn't it need special drivers to work on the Windows side? AFAIK, usb-modeswitch won't help here. What could be tested however would be if you provide a USB ID (plug in your blackberry with a USB cable, then give us the IDs returned by lsusb), then maybe it's possible to add it to a whitelist for ModemManager to consider.
