It could be, if po/POTFILES.in included the desktop file. This is a very exposed part of the system, leaving it unavailable for translation would be irresponsible. I don't have time to provide a patch today, but it's really simple. Add the .desktop.in file to POTFILES.in and modify the generic English entries, so they have an underscore sign in front of them like this:

_Name=Rhythmbox Music Player
_Comment=Play and organize your music collection

This will not make the .desktop file validate, but it worked with bluez-gnome and the strings were picked up by the .pot file.

Seeing that this is probably not going to land in Rosetta before the language pack translations deadline (tomorrow), and Alexander's call for translations on comment 2, here's the Catalan translation:

Name=Configuració de la xarxa
Comment=Configuració del gestor de xarxes

Please let me know if you need it in any other form.

Hi, oops, didn't notice this bug. I filed bug 286421 and created a patch there to fix this problem, asac promised yesterday to do something about it but no luck yet, hopefully not forgotten. It's starting to be too late for the release (translations deadline tomorrow), but the first language pack updates would fix the problem if my patch was applied.

Just in case,
Name[fi]=Verkkoasetukset
Comment[fi]=Verkon hallinnan asetukset

I've built the fixed packages at https://launchpad.net/~timo-jyrinki/+archive/, though of course the only thing it really does at the moment is that the POT file from that package has the messages translatable. But I tested it, putting new MO file into use and have the .desktop item translated on my machine now.
