Bug Description

Binary package hint: network-manager

This update (network-manager_0.7--svn20081004t225044-0ubuntu1_i386.deb arrived on my Ubuntu 8.10 system as a Intrepid Update (date received = 6th October 2008). On the next system boot, all Internet access failed! It also periodically killed all local Network Internet access for 5 other Windows based workstations on the same local Office Network.

Prior to this network-manager update, the main ubuntu 8.10 system had worked fine for several 'non-stop' weeks - without any networking hitch (or loss of local broadband ADSL services).

However, once the update was made active, I lost all office networking every 20 minutes (on 5 other Windows computer sharing the same DHCP ADSL connection). The 'updated' ubuntu 8.10 OS lost all internet access permanently - after a reboot on install of this network-manager_0.7--svn20081004t225044-0ubuntu1_i386.deb 'update'

In mild frustration, and much lost time, I researched (Google'd) and decided the 'best shot trial' was to remove this 'update', along with it's Gnome front end.

At this point normal operation, returned, and I was able to function normally.

Hi Alexander Sack,

I now longer use the give 'network-manager_0.7--svn20081004t225044-0ubuntu1_i386.deb'

Simply removing it [network-manager_0.7--svn20081004t225044-0ubuntu1_i386.deb] - resolved the problems with my Intranet and Network system.

I suffered a major 'down-time' with this update that took down most of my multiple workstation access to my networked Broadband Services. I needed a fast solution. So.....

I used Google to troubleshoot and 'act' on the results of other Ubuntu users with a similar problem.

Problem resolved by removal of above application (the older version did work fine)!
