Prior to this network-manager update, the main ubuntu 8.10 system had worked fine for several 'non-stop' weeks - without any networking hitch (or loss of local broadband ADSL services).
However, once the update was made active, I lost all office networking every 20 minutes (on 5 other Windows computer sharing the same DHCP ADSL connection). The 'updated' ubuntu 8.10 OS lost all internet access permanently - after a reboot on install of this network-
In mild frustration, and much lost time, I researched (Google'd) and decided the 'best shot trial' was to remove this 'update', along with it's Gnome front end.
At this point normal operation, returned, and I was able to function normally.

we need output of lspci -v as well as a complete syslog taken after reproducing and your /etc/network/ interfaces.
