Bug Description

I have two network ports (ens 34 and ens 37) I'm able to create per port its own named profile where it is defined if this used profile should use DHCP, use manual DNS and others.

But if I connect my android Smartphone with USB tethering all named Profiles are showing below the new network Port (USB Ethernet) and not any more below their defined port. (visual error only) That should only happened if a profile is not active but in this case I would prefer a separate profile menu where I could choose one and add to a specific port.

Sometimes the network manager entry in the menu also shows confusing or empty entries. See print screen attached

Thank you for your bug report, it's not clear from the description what the issue is. Is the problem with the settings UI or with the top bar indicator popdown? Or is there an issue with each (in which case it would be better to have 2 reports, it would be less confusing)

Reading again it seems there is at least one settings issue. What version of Ubuntu are you using?

In this case I use Ubuntu 18.04. On another device with Ubuntu 18.10 I
have the same UI problem.

Because the view in the Pop-down usually reflect the same wrong
appearance as the configuration dialogue, I thought that both may have
the same source of error. This case where the Pop-down not appear with a
network icon and text (only happened on 18.04) also only exist in the
configuration with an USB-Thetering. It's finally only a UI problem, the
Network configuration is working without Problem.

I've reported the settings issue upstream
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-control-center/issues/353

The shell popdown menu isn't identical though, in your sreenshot there is no entry for ens38 device which is listed in setting and active so that might be another issue
