Bug Description

I recently bought a Lenovo T61 laptop and tried to install Gutsy (Feisty wouldn't install at all but that's a different bug!). I can't get it to see my WPA wireless network, though when I run XP I can (so the HW works), and when I connect with a simple ethernet cable it works.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Is this using an installed system or just using the LiveCD? Does you wireless network happen to be hidden or does it advertise the ESSID? Thanks in advance.

I've installed Gutsy with all the upgrades.

My wireless system does advertise its name (If I boot into WinXP on the same
machine, I can see it and connect just fine).

Thanks for taking this on! I'm a Linux newbie, but so far I'm having a good
time :)

One other (perhaps related?) issue is that when I plug a network cable
directly into the ethernet port (eth0), I can connect to the net for a
little while, but eventually it will fail (sometimes almost directly after I
connect). I can do sudo ifdown eth0 and then sudo ifup eth0, but it fails
again very soon afterwards. Again, this doesn't seem to be an issue when I
boot WinXP.

The file '/var/log/syslog' would be helpful in determining what is going on in both situations.

Sure. Here it is.

My friend did somehting to fix the ethernet issue and I can connect via

A buddy of mine changed the encryption on my router from WPA to WEP and now

Hi there
do you still experience this issue with the current version of the application?, could you please try to reproduce this using the live environment of the Desktop CD of the development release - Hardy Heron.

Hey.

Sorry I couldn't get the time to reconfigure my wireless. I'm in complete
crunch mode and just don't have the extra ooomph to break a configuration
that's now working for me.

Thanks for keeping on top of it...
