Bug Description

Binary package hint: network-manager

Trying to connect to a wireless network in nm-applet by left clicking on the ESSID name causes nm-applet to crash.

From '/var/log/messages':

Jun 21 17:15:47 batman kernel: [ 309.636816] nm-applet[6709]: segfault at 0000000000000000 rip 0000000000418c66 rsp 00007fff29636db0 error 4

Left clicking and choosing "Connect to Other Wireless Network..." does not cause the crash.

Sounds like the same bug found here:

The work around should work for you.

Bug number 121228 may be similar to this but it is fairly cluttered and is not immediately clear to me.

For simplicity's sake the work around (and it worked for me) summarized from Peter Clifton's comment on #121228 is:
1) killall nm-applet, or let it crash

2) Delete the gconf entries with:
gconftool-2 --recursive-unset /system/networking/wireless/networks/<SSID>
where <SSID> is your network's SSID

3) Open gnome-keyring-manager, and delete your saved keys

4) restart nm-applet

5) Reconnect to your network(s) and re-enter your keys
