Bug Description

Binary package hint: network-manager-pptp

Editing properties of a VPN connection, button Advanced (nm-connection-editor)
Checking "Use Point-to-Point encryption (MPPE)" and
Selecting 128-bit (most secure) from "Security"
Clicking OK

When clicking Advanced again "Use Point-to-Point encryption (MPPE)" is unchecked again.
i.e. can't configure MPPE 128 bits, thus can't connect to PPTP server.

Ubuntu release: 8.10 (beta)
network manager: 0.7~~svn20081008t224042-0ubuntu2
network-manager-pptp: 0.7~~svn20080928t225540-0ubuntu1

The updates to the PPA appear to kind of fix this. I was able to choose mppe, and it persists to gconf, but if i choose any of the encryption settings other than the default, and hit ok, it unsets the mppe option entirely. Also, the EAP option is not present in the list.

This patch fixes the MPPE settings problem, along with the EAP settings. If someone would be kind enough to help me with working with my PPA, I will upload a package.

Having a similar problem with MPPE. Applying the network-manager - 0.7~~svn20081018t105859-0ubuntu2 proposed patch from Bug #290468 appears to have fixed the dialogue box, but the VPN still fails. I can connect through the console using the PPTP plugin directly using the instructions from this page:

http://pptpclient.sourceforge.net/howto-debian.phtml

For whatever reason Network manager still has issues with the PPTP plugin and/or with MPPE security settings. I attempted a fix from PPA but it made no difference.
