Bad experience after 1.0.4 upgrade:

- network-manager fail to start; fail with both systemd & upstart boot
- downgrading to the previous 0.9.10.0 resolve the issue.

New version available from Debian:

network-manager (1.0.6-1) unstable; urgency=medium

  * New upstream release.
  * Refresh patches.
  * Update symbols file for libnm0 and libnm-glib4.
  * Drop debian/patches/Mark-virtual-ethernet-interfaces-as-unmanaged.patch,
    this patch is obsolete, since upstream provides a udev rules based
    mechanism now to mark virtual interfaces as unmanaged. (Closes: #794083)
  * Use GnuTLS crypto API instead of gcrypt. Patch cherry-picked from upstream
    Git. (Closes: #748675)
  * Fix command line parsing in nmcli. Patch cherry-picked from upstream Git.

I'm acknowledging that this would be good to have, but it's getting increasingly late to go through the process for a full update of NetworkManager -- wily is in freeze, we've already just done one (and it has taken 10 times the time I thought it would).

This should be a priority for wily+1, but it probably won't be *my* priority, there's a ton of other things on my list these days. If someone wants to prepare the update and provide a debdiff here, I'll be happy to sponsor it, but it's something that *does* require a substancial amount of testing even before thinking of uploading (I usually test a few different wifi setups, ethernet, VPNs, etc. -- see http://wiki.ubuntu.com/NetworkManager/DistroTesting/ for an idea of it).

In the meantime, feel free to file bugs for every single issue you find with NM, crashes, etc. We can easily fix them and cherry-pick bug fixes from the upstream git.

dino99 - can you open new bugs once a release is updated? It's confusing when a bug is resolved then re-opened for a different reason.

Wanting to get the last revision and test it on that wired Wily i386 installation.
Cmake and bzr are installed, but fail to bypass that error:

bzr branch lp:~robert-ancell/network-manager-applet/update-1.0.4
You have not informed bzr of your Launchpad ID, and you must do this to
write to Launchpad or access private data. See "bzr help launchpad-login".
Branched 470 revisions.
cd update-1.0.4
 ~/update-1.0.4 > cmake .
CMake Error: The source directory "/home/oem/update-1.0.4" does not appear to contain CMakeLists.txt.

I've glanced at posts/threads about that missing file, but does not find the solution (first time using bzr)

dino99 - you can build with the following:
$ sudo apt-get build-dep network-manager-applet
$ bzr branch lp:~robert-ancell/network-manager-applet/update-1.0.4 network-manager-applet-1.0.4
$ cd network-manager-applet-1.0.4
$ bzr-buildpackage

The .debs will be in ../build-area (ignore the warning about failing to sign them). Install them with "sudo dpkg -i"

To clarify - my branch just contains the packaging changes, bzr-buildpackage will download the network-manager-applet source, combine them together then build the package.

Note that these aren't the latest versions of the applet or PPTP - these are just the versions that work with the current network manager version (1.0.4). We can update them again when we get NM rebased on Debian.

Debian ist already at 1.0.10 (sid) and 1.1.90 (experimental) so merging 1.0.6 makes no sense anymore althought rebased patches could be reused.
