doesn't work with static IP

Bug Description

Binary package hint: network-manager-pptp

After installing network-manager-pptp I cannot connect to a VPN because the NetworkManager doesn't allow VPN connections on statically configured interfaces.

This doesn't makes any sense since it is completely fine to use a VPN having a static IP. network-manager-pptp should allow VPN connections for those cases aswell.

Just to make it clearer: the interface cannot be configured through DHCP, because the ISP provides a fixed IP. Trying to set the interface to roaming mode breaks the whole connectivity. Same happens on any non-DHCP enabled networks.

I have the same problem. It does not appear when my IP address is static.

Thanks for your bug report. The problem is that NetworkManager doesn't properly support static IP addressing - the option in the menu disables NM if you configure it statically. I've marked this bug as a duplicate of the bug tracking the greater NM issue. Please feel free to comment further there.

sgstefan: please comment on bug 5364.

People care, but no-one so far has stepped up to do the work required to make the plug-in work with the new version of NetworkManager. Perhaps you could recommend this to someone who you know who is looking for a programming challenge, or contribute to a bounty for solving this issue?
