Bug Description

Binary package hint: network-manager-openvpn

In Karmic, my VPN connection worked fine. Since Lucid Alpha 3, nm-applet shows the following error when trying to connect:

"""
Cannot start VPN connection 'EBD'

There was a problem launching the authentication dialog for VPN connection type 'org.freedesktop.NetworkManager.openvpn'. Contact your system administrator.
"""

A needed file seems to not be present:

~$ cat /etc/NetworkManager/VPN/nm-openvpn-service.name
[VPN Connection]
name=openvpn
service=org.freedesktop.NetworkManager.openvpn
program=/usr/lib/network-manager-openvpn/nm-openvpn-service

[GNOME]
auth-dialog=/usr/lib/network-manager-openvpn/nm-openvpn-auth-dialog
properties=libnm-openvpn-properties

~$ stat /usr/lib/network-manager-openvpn/nm-openvpn-service /usr/lib/network-manager-openvpn/nm-openvpn-auth-dialog

Argh. In Lucid, the package network-manager-openvpn-gnome is also needed.

But the said packages don't depend on each other, though they don't work without each other. Perhaps the following dependencies should be added:

network-manager-openvpn should suggest network-manager-openvpn-gnome
network-manager-openvpn-gnome should depend on network-manager-openvpn

(BTW, forget to mention explicitly: after installing network-manager-openvpn-gnome, VPN access worked again.)

Marking this as a duplicate of bug 516854, network-manager-openvpn and network-manager-openvpn-gnome need their dependencies adjusted.

After upgrading to Lucid I made certain that I had openvpn, network-manager-openvpn, and network-manager-openvpn-gnome, but it still didn't work. It would start thousands of openvpn processes. I finally reinstalled each of these packages and it now works fine!
