Bug Description

Binary package hint: network-manager-openvpn

Testing on Intrepid 32-bit KDE, two computers
 - as VirtualBox guest under Hardy 64-bit (512MB allocated memory)
 - on Compaq EVO N1000V laptop directly (512MB RAM), connected to LAN/Internet via eth0

In both cases, set up VPN connection in KNetworkManager, on the VBox used pre-shared key and junk information (was just going through the motions so I could see the same dialogs and things as the person on the other end of the phone).
The Compaq (person on other end of phone) used X509 certificates and was set up correctly (identical to my KDE 3.5/Hardy version - not inside virtualbox which works perfectly).
Then rightciicked on knetworkmanager "green earth" icon, select "Start VPN Connection" and the new connection from submenu.

After about 5 seconds, crash dialog appears.

/var/log/messages shows (norton-laptop is name of vbox guest of course)

When I repeat the right-click/ Start VPN connection etc, nothing visibly happens, just the segfault reported in log again eg:

Oct 23 13:31:58 norton-laptop kernel: [ 788.575665] nm-openvpn-serv[6206]: segfault at 0 ip 08049dfd sp bfc86890 error 4 in nm-openvpn-service[8048000+5000]

This is a very clean intrepid install, and is up-to-date as of right now.

uname -a: Linux norton-laptop 2.6.27-7-generic #1 SMP Wed Oct 22 00:29:18 UTC 2008 i686 GNU/Linux

network-manager-openvpn: Installed: 0.7~~svn20081015t024626-0ubuntu1

Expected: on my machine a connection error (bad credentials etc) 'cos I typed in junk. On the Compaq: it should have connected ok.

I can confirm this bug for intrepid (kubuntu) on amd64. nm-openvpn-serv crashes when trying to connect to an existing openvpn connection:

It did work on clean intrepid install from Kubuntu amd64 dvd image.

The install is relatively fresh from kubuntu dvd (about 10 days old) and everything is updated every day (*WITHOUT* the backports, only the updates).
