Bug Description

I am trying to hook up my laptop to my office network and trying to give manual IP as 172.17.0.28 ( this is my network range in office ) subnet mask is 255.255.0.0 and gateway is 172.17.0.254 and when click on ok button and check again for ip settings then gateway is coming as 0.0.0.0.
The office network is windows 2003 server network on 64 bit while ubuntu is on my laptop 32 bit mode.

Please help

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we can't fix it because your description didn't include enough information. We'd be grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures . If you use NetworkManger to setup your network settings (it is not clear from your description) please read https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingNetworkManager . As for the definition of the problem is well to see the output of `ifconfig -a` and `netstat -rn` commands.

I have exactly the same problem with Ubuntu 9.04 desktop.
When configuring the cable LAN with networkmanager, after selecting the card and
adding the IP and Mask numbers, the Gateway number is not saved.
Instead it is always set to 0.0.0.0

Any idea?
Thanks

This bug also exists in 10.04

It seems that network manager (nm-connection-editor) does not save the gateway IP unless you click onto one of the other settings (such as subnet mask) before hitting apply.

Is this bug reproducible with the latest Lucid packages ?
Thanks in advance.

I can confirm this is still Present on Lucid, I performed a full software update prior to retesting so all packages should be current.

When setting the Static IP in network-manager-applet it still fails to save the gateway unless you click on either the Ip address or subnet mask fields prior to hitting apply.

Network Manager Applet version shows as 0.8
