NetworkManager update deletes settings and changes to auto DHCP

Bug Description

I'm using Ubuntu 8.10 on a Dell Optiplex GX280.

I'm not completely sure that the network-manager-applet is to blame; it might be some other package it depends on. Maybe it's not even a bug, although this behavior seems like a bug to me.

Yesterday's update of network-manager-* to 0.7~~svn20081018t105859-0ubuntu1.8.10.1 changed from the manual settings (losing everything) to automatic DHCP (I'm assuming one of these packages did the change). This changed the IP address, which was not good -- as you know, some people (like me) need fixed IP, and it took me most of the day to notice why I could not scp to my machine or access it's webserver.

The updated manager should keep the old settings. If that's not possible, it should at least warn the user about it, and save (or at least display) the old settings so the user can change it later, if possible.
