Bug Description

Every time time i login network-manager shows an annoying popup saying: "Connection etablished you are now connected to the wired network" I really doesn't think it should be neccesary to show that popup every time i login.

Here is a duplicate (sort of, but without enought information I think)

Some forums post about the problem:

I think this is a tricky issue. I use a laptop nearly every time i login it is from a different location. For me it is very helpful to know that I have a successful network connection. Im trying to brainstorm a way to accommodate everyones preferred behavior here. Possibly an option for each individual network connection that prevents notification of connection when it occurred automatically (i.e. on login).

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. This bug did not have a package associated with it, which is important for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper developers. You can learn more about finding the right package at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage . I have classified this bug as a bug in network-manager.
For future reference you might be interested to know that a lot of applications have bug reporting functionality built in to them. This can be accessed via the Report a Problem option in the Help menu for the application with which you are having an issue. You can learn more about this feature at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.

Hi!

Elias K Gardner: I don't think this would be so tricky, just check whetever the connection is wired or not, if it is wired the user probably don't expect the popup, if not show the popup and a "don't display this message again"-checkbox.
Also you can offer the user to switch on or off the popup-message :-)

Koen Beek:

Okey... thought i hade associtated the bug with network-manager-applet (Ubuntu)??
Hope this one gets fixed soon, even if it's not a critical one it's still a little bit annoying :-)
Please keep me updated :D

Best regards /FreeUser

What if there was an option that set notifications to when you successfully
connect, or when cannot successfully connect to any of your connections or
disabled all together?

Another option could disable notification for an individual connection.
These would be flexible enough to cover the situations we have discussed i
think.

The bug is fixed in Network Manager applets svn revision 1046
( see: http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=455250#c7 )

Could it be backported to intrepid?

Where do I post request for backport? i posted on ubunutu forums, but no one responded http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=6515098.

Also I've tried to compile it - but I have some errors that I can't figure out. And even if I manage to compile it, i am not sure how exectly to "replace" current applet.

Michele Mangili: As this bug still persists for me in Intrepid, may I ask if this fix isn't included in the repositorys?

It suprise me a little bit, that my fully updated system still is affected by this...

Yes, the bug still exists as the new version of Network manager applet that includes the fix has *not* been backported to Ubuntu.

I've filed a backport request in intrepid backports two months ago, but nothing has happened since. The request is located in
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/317514

So everything needed to fix the issue would be someone to kindly do the backport.

P.S. Is the status of this bug supposed to be "fix released", as it's not released in Ubuntu?
