Bug Description

On intrepid 32 bit. When I lauch nm-applet I got:

** (nm-applet:15574): WARNING **: <WARN> constructor(): Invalid connection: 'NMSettingWireless' / 'ssid' invalid: 2

I have to say that network manager crashed and when I rebooted nm-applet didn't lauch, and I have that error

I have got that in my syslog: NetworkManager: <info> Unmanaged Device found; state CONNECTED forced. (see http://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/191889)

I am running a system that started as 7.something, then was
upgraded to 8.04, then was upgraded to the release version of
8.10, and the problem did occur. The workaround at
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=977224 comment 5 worked
for me. A fresh install of 8.10 works fine too. The problem is
that the bad /etc/network/interfaces file arrived from a previous
install of Ubuntu. Many people will upgrade into using network
manager, so in addition to making sure that you don't put a bad
/etc/network/interfaces file out there, there is also value in
being able to recover from having a bad one. Even if it's
impractical to recover, having the UI vanish is a bad error
message.

Here's the broken /etc/network/interfaces. Except for the
censored SSID, it is an accurate description of my network
environment.

auto lo
iface lo inet loopback

iface eth1 inet dhcp
wireless-essid Censored

auto eth1

I observed it independently, so I don't think it's invalid.
