Bug Description

Hi,

my problem occurred while running the command '' in the gnome-terminal. The Display crashed and I tried ctrl+alt+F2. I got a black screen. I tried ctrl+alt+F2 again (not ctrl+alt+backspace). Now I got a login prompt. I tried startx. I had to remove: '$ sudo rm /tmp/.X0-lock'. Then I had to remove any running Xserver. I could not find 'ps -C xserver-xorg'. I did 'ps -A | less', but I found too much X-stuff. So I just did: '$ sudo kill -9 -1'. I have verified that my hardware is functioning correctly. I report this as this is a new title. If you don't find anything special, just close this down or I will let it expire.

Cannot believe this... same issue here! Just moved from 8.04.1 to 8.10

It works okay on my gf's account, same box, so I think it's a local user configuration issue... maybe policyd?

Okkkkkk.....

It worked fine on another account, so I guessed it's something to do with local configuration.

It indeed seems so.

I removed all wireless-related settings from Programs -> Accesories -> Keys and encryption

Also looked into policykit, but skipped that.

Another issue I found was that in ~/ the folder .dbus was chmod'ed 700 and owned root:root. I chown'ed it to myuser:myuser, rebooted, and it seems to work fine.

Try just looking for ~/.dbus, if that is not there, try removing your old configs.

Seems to work over here (tho I had to start nm-applet manually this time, we'll see on next reboot)

Cheers!

i guess you dont have the old configs back upped so we can identify the
bogus setting?

No, I do not have the old configs, nor can I reproduce it. Anyway, this thing is ancient. Close it down?
