Bug Description

Version Info:
Xubuntu 12.04.3 LTS (all latest package updates as of 24 Oct 2013)
Xubuntu-desktop 2.152 -- network panel applet

Issue:
PPTP VPN connection not indicated in network panel applet for wired network connection.

When a VPN connection is established while using a WIRELESS network connection, the network panel applet shows a tiny lock in the wireless connection icon indicating that a VPN connection is established.

If connected to a WIRED network, the wired network icon does not show the lock to indicate that your VPN connection is active. You must navigate down the applet menu to see if your VPN connection is established.

affects: xubuntu-meta (Ubuntu) → network-manager-applet (Ubuntu)

Note this is the panel applet in Xubuntu. Not sure if it is the same as the Ubuntu panel applet.

...also, not sure if the panel applet (or indicator??? ...the indicator in the panel that shows the status of your network connection) is the same as the network manager applet.
