Bug Description

Binary package hint: yelp

When user launches Network config tool via System/Administration/Network, they are unable to configure a wireless connection. After providing administrator password, the wireless adapter can be selected, but any values they input to Properties do not save and are not updated to the interfaces file. Scenario 1: User has router with WPA AES security with passphrase. User tries to enter passphrase into Ubuntu Network GUI but information is not written to the interfaces file so the network connection can be made. Scenario 2: User with WPA2 security tries to use Network tool to update interfaces file with passphrase. Passphrase does not save, does not write to Interfaces file. Scenario 3: WPA User manually edits interfaces file with all relevant wireless information. If they now go into the Ubuntu Network tool, the WPA password field will now show ******* and presumably has correct data! It appears the Network tool can read the interfaces file but not write to it.

1) Package is Ubuntu Studio 9.10 x64.
2) I expected the Network Tool to edit the interfaces file with my input so a connection could be created.
3) Instead it could not write to the file. It appears to be able to read it however.
