I installed the Netspeed panel app in Ubuntu 11.04, and it won't show up even though I am using the Ubuntu Classic interface.

There is an equivalent of Netspeed using indicator-sysmonitor and a script; both working fine (see screenshot (yellow) for details). You can find it – as well as a description how to install it – at
Nevertheless: Netspeed (or an equivalent) should be ported to Unity/GNOME3 to be able to use a native tool.

I agree - Netspeed is a very useful tool and the average user shouldn't be expected to modify scripts for such a common functionality. There should be a one click install solution.

I agree too. Netspeed is the gnome 2 applet I miss most in Unity.
