Can't locate netdisco/mason.pm in @INC

Binary package hint: netdisco-common

Installed all the netdisco packages (so it could be -backend -frontend or -common). After configuring netdisco to work with apache. I get the following when I go to http://ip.of.server./netdisco "Internal Server Error" and some very generic info on the web page..

in the /var/log/apach2/error.log file I get
[Fri Mar 06 14:18:33 2009] [error] [client 10.x.x.x] failed to resolve handler `netdisco::Mason': Can't locate netdisco/Mason.pm in @INC (@INC contains: /etc/perl /usr/local/lib/perl/5.10.0 /usr/local/share/perl/5.10.0 /usr/lib/perl5 /usr/share/perl5 /usr/lib/perl/5.10 /usr/share/perl/5.10 /usr/local/lib/site_perl . /etc/apache2) at (eval 2) line 3.\n

running a locate on Mason.pm returns:
/usr/share/perl5/Apache/Mason.pm
/usr/share/perl5/Bundle/HTML/Mason.pm
/usr/share/perl5/HTML/Mason.pm

none of which is under netdisco.

tried doing a symbolic link from /usr/share/perl5/Apache to /usr/share/perl5/netdisco. but that just results in a blank page n the web browser and the error message:
failed to resolve handler netdisco::Mason
in the /var/log/apache2/error.log file.

This is in ubuntu 8.10
