karmic netbook-launcher very slow on a desktop pc

Binary package hint: netbook-launcher

netbook-launcher is very slow to react on my system. Some times:

- From clicking the Ubuntu icon to minimise all windows to netbook-launcher finishing drawing: 16 seconds.

- Moving the mouse from one icon to an icon next to it and hovering there (no clicking): 9 seconds.

- Selecting a different tab on the left column: 10 seconds.

This is a desktop PC (several years old) with a Nvidia GeForce2 MX200. It's not a recent video card, but it shouldn't be this slow.

No other program has this problem.

I have the recommended proprietary nvidia driver package installed. (Recommended by the "Hardware Drivers" app.)

I've attached, in one file

Thanks for reporting this bug and makes ubuntu better.
I think this is due to your nvidia card doesn't support all compositing used by clutter.

You should give a try to netbook-launcher-efl which will land in lucid (there is some plan for some testing and launching the right launcher version on UNE start for lucid).

As this is related to hw, I set the bug report as invalid. Do not hesitate to report a new one if it's still slow on lucid with the new launcher (not yet implemented).
