Bug Description

Binary package hint: netbook-launcher

Having applied all Karmic updates, I received the latest UNR packages. On reboot, netbook-launcher crashed, so I alt+F2'd to a terminal and restarted again.

On this reboot, the launcher is shown, but it is not as per the screen shots I have seen. I have attached a screen shot.

I noticed that certain actions with the launcher cause it to disappear. When run from a terminal, it appears to be a segfault. Below is the output from removing a favorite. I have checked I have the latest packages.

djwhyte@david-mini:~$ netbook-launcher

Try adjusting the vblank_mode configuration parameter.

Also, when you choose to shutdown, the launcher disappears, but the machine does not shutdown. I have to bring up a terminal (via alt+F2) and then run halt from the command line.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we need some more information in order to resolve this. The best thing to do is to use apport when it comes up to notify you of the crash. If this doesn't happen, you may try checking /var/crash to see if there is a new .crash report there on netbook-launcher and run 'ubuntu-bug <.crash file>' where <.crash file> is the path/filename of the netbook-launcher crash file you found there. Also, you may try looking at the other bugs in netbook-launcher to see if your problem matches any of the already-reported segfaults with this program.

Changed in netbook-launcher (Ubuntu):
status: New → Incomplete

I can't upload the crash file, although it seems to get updated every time the launcher crashes. When I try, I get a dialog saying 'No such file or directory' and no output to the terminal.

Is there anything in that crash file that is sensitive or can I attach it here?

In that case try using 'apport-cli -c <crashfile>'
