Netbeans stuck on "Starting modules..." at launch

I was experiencing this issue on Ubuntu 16.04 with Netbeans 8.0.2

So I then ran

sudo apt-get upgrade netbeans

and was upgraded to 8.1

Started 8.1, asked to import previous version settings which I did.

Still the same issue. I can upload messages.log for v8.0.2 but not for 8.1 as it seems to be missing from ./nb/var/

I don't see anything suspicious in the log file. Could you provide the old messages.log file from ~/.netbeans/8.0.2/var/log too?

There is a similar Debian bug report but I can't reproduce it.

What happens if you remove the ~/.netbeans directory before you launch netbeans? Please make a backup of your settings before doing that.

I removed ~/.netbeans/8.1/
No difference. The splash is stuck on the starting modules and does not exit.

I will try sudo apt-get remove --purge netbeans and then reinstall.

It seems JVM is already running so you may get thread dump for this JVM and attach it here to see if it is deadlock or something else.

Hi, I'm cannot reproduce this now as I upgraded from kernel 3.16.0-57 to 4.x and now it is working fine.

To make it work with OpenJDK 8, edit /etc/java-8-openjdk/accessibility.properties and comment out the line "assistive_technologies=org.GNOME.Accessibility.AtkWrapper", as suggested here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/openjdk-8/+bug/1510009.

In my case

sudo pico /etc/java-7-openjdk/accessibility.properties
