Bug Description
Binary package hint: netbase
I've got a laptop with ethernet and wireless. After upgrading to Feisty beta, the machine waited 50 seconds if it is not connected to the ethernet network. This was fixed by replacing "auto" with "allow-hotplug" for eth0 in "/etc/network/
I suggest to ask the user if he wants to make this change upon upgrading.

This is a duplicate of bug #102675, the change you suggest is incorrect since our "auto" means that udev can bring the device up. The bug was that the rules file ignored every device, when we only intended it to ignore devices without real hardware
