Steps to reproduce:
1. Have Ubuntu 20.04 LTS installed with Unity desktop
2. Login to the Unity session
3. Open terminal and create symlink to the some application executable with

   ln -s /usr/bin/xclock ~/Desktop/xclock

4. Click on just created `xclock` file symlink on the desktop

Expected results:
* user is able to run symlink'ed application from Desktop

Actual results:
* user is unable to run symlink'ed application from Desktop, the following window is shown instead:

    > Unknown file type
    > There file "xclock" has no known programs associated with it. Use the Open With dialog to pick a program to open it with.

Click on "Choose a program" and selecting Run Software and then OK does not help.
