Nedit (with server), all windows hang when one window hangs

Bug Description

Binary package hint: nedit

I can have an number of nedit windows open on local files. If just one window is open on a file that is on a samba mount, and that mount point hangs up, ALL nedit windows freeze. And nedit never recovers. There doesn't seem to be any sort of timeout. I have to kill the nedit server (possibly losing unsaved work), just because I have no way of telling nedit to discard the one bad document.

1) One hanging window should not hang all other windows
2) No window should hang, even if the mount has a problem

I don't blame the developers for making the server single threaded (well, I do, but I can sympathize), but I do think that if they're going to do something risky, they should do it in another thread so the main thread doesn't hang.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering is this still an issue for you? Thanks in advance.

Since then, I have generally avoided using nedit over NFS or other network-mounted file system. However, I know of no development in nedit that would have affected this. People are still endlessly debating the clipboard problems. If I were you, I would assume that this is still a problem. It's very unlikely to have been fixed.
