Bug Description

After dist-upgrading from dapper to edgy, the ndiswrapper module fails to load. Upon modprobe ndiswrapper, the following happens:

FATAL: Error inserting ndiswrapper (/lib/modules/2.6.17-10-386/kernel/drivers/net/ndiswrapper/ndiswrapper.ko): Invalid argument

And dmesg reports:

Oct 14 00:00:21 localhost kernel: [17179906.148000] ndiswrapper version 1.22 loaded (preempt=no,smp=no)
Oct 14 00:00:21 localhost kernel: [17179906.152000] ndiswrapper (wrapper_init:129): loadndiswrapper fail
ed (1536); check system log for messages from 'loadndisdriver'
Oct 14 00:00:21 localhost kernel: [17179906.152000] ndiswrapper (wrapper_init:136): ndiswrapper: initial
ization failed

Installing package ndiswrapper-utils-1.8 solves the problem.

I also have the same problem. My broadcomm 43xx wireless adapter worked in dapper with ndiswrapper, but modprobe ndiswrapper returns an "invalid argument" just like this one.

After doing some research, I found the below link, and I'm hoping that the final release will include some means of addressing this situation:

Okay, I have a bit of an update.

I was able to plug in an USB wlan adapter to get at the online synaptic repositories, and when I downloaded the ndiswrapper-1.18 package I no longer received the error message.

Same problem here. The problem was that during the upgrade, ndiswrapper-common and ndiswrapper-tools were uninstalled and not replaced. I had to download both on a second computer and use dpkg to install them.
