Bug Description

Hey Team,

Let me start by saying thanks for your dedicated work on this great project.

I use ndiswrapper to (try to) connect to a WPA wireless Network using a Netgear WG111v1.

If I try to connect to the WPA network it just won't connect (No NetworkManager green button lights). If I change the security method to open WEP on my router it connects perfectly and automatically. My wireless adapter used to connect to the WPA network in version -9 of the kernel (with a modprobe reload of ndiswrapper every time I booted).

Some people have said that it is because of the earlier windows driver I am using, but if that was the case it wouldn't have worked before in -9...

By the way: It only works on version 9 of the kernel when I have both bcm43xx and prism54usb blacklisted in /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist

Thanks again

Hi I experienced the same problem with my Broadcom 4319 card and was able to fix it by compiling the latest ndiswrapper 1.42.

I also fixed the problem by compiling the latest ndiswrapper 1.42 -- Thanks Kevin

I concur, downloading and installing ndiswrapper 1.42 from source fixed WPA problem. Perhaps this version should be used in the repositories.

i agree, it may be the old version of ndiswrapper that caused the problem.

Confirmed. WPA doesn't work in Feisty with the ndiswrapper version from the repos but works perfectly with the newest ndiswrapper 1.43 compiled from source. I have a Buffalo WLI-U2-KG54 USB wireless adapter with Ralink rt2570 chipset.

Marking this as "Fix Released" despite the fix being in linux-ubuntu-modules because 1.45 is in Gutsy

Changed in ndiswrapper:
status: Confirmed → Fix Released
Changed in linux-ubuntu-modules-2.6.22:
assignee: nobody → ben-collins
status: New → Fix Released

After trying to connect please provide the output of
- dmesg
- lsmod|grep ndiswrapper
- ndiswrapper -v

Also make sure, that the rt73usb module is not loaded (check with lsmod|grep rt73usb)
Also try installing the latest ndiswrapper-version from source (http://ndiswrapper.sf.net) and providing the same output as requested above again (reboot or reload ndiswrapper in between).

I'm not sure the exact protocol here but this bug was for sure fixed in gutsy. Should EljoPc be posting a new bug? Regardless, I will try this on my system on sunday and report back.

I did some testing with an other system (laptop). I loaded Ubuntu from cd and could connect WPA automatic. (other wifi driver in laptop). Don't know if this helps but its some extra info.

I wanted to test the idea's from Andreas but the system automatic connects to my other wifi router (non secure) and I have not found jet how to disconnect. If i now go to the wifi settings the window is totally greyed out.
