first time connected phone to computer it showed up as mass storage device now after many attempts ubuntu will not find it

The phone when connected by USB cable brings up message that "wired network connected " but nothing else . the first time I connected it there was no problem as it showed up as a mass storage device and was easily excepted and usable. I am using Ubuntu 11.10

The bug is old and Ubuntu changed quite a lot since, there has also been no activity here nor similar reports. Closing since we believe the issue as described is deprecated but feel free to file a new report if you still have problems in recent Ubuntu versions.
