Bug Description

Hello all, I am having a problem with one of my burners since I upgraded to 10.04 from 11.10, it's a lite-on DH20A4P-04. It'll mount the disc at startup and for an unknown amount of time after startup. But at some point, I can put a disc in and nothing happens, the light will come on and go out, but that's about it. The one directly below it, a lite-on LH-20A1S-12 works fine, I just don't remember having this problem before. Just wondering if it's something I need to file a bug report on, thanks for any advice.

thank you for your bug report, could you run "udisks --monitor" and "gvfs-mount -o" and put the disc in (when having the issue) and copy the logs there?

I ran "udisks --monitor" and let it go for over 5 minutes and this was all I got.

phil@phil-desktop:~$ udisks --monitor
Monitoring activity from the disks daemon. Press Ctrl+C to cancel.
changed: /org/freedesktop/UDisks/devices/sr0
changed: /org/freedesktop/UDisks/devices/sr0

phil@phil-desktop:~$ gvfs-mount -o
Monitoring events. Press Ctrl+C to quit.
Drive connected: 'CD/DVD Drive'
Volume added: 'DVDVIDEO'

It seems as if it's detecting the disk now and just not mounting and unmounting it automatically. It wasn't even doing this a couple of days ago. I could put a disk in and open System>Administration>Disk Utility and couldn't see any media detected. I am going to try and provide screenshots of the Disk Utility with the disk in and out.

could you run "gvfs-mount -li" with the disk in the drive?

That time, it mounted the disk the first time I put it in the drive, the icon popped up on the desktop and then the popup telling me there was media in the drive along with the list of programs to open it with, rhythmbox, etc... just like it should.
I ejected it and pushed it right back in and it didn't mount it, but at least it is recognizing it now.

It's quite confusing, so is the issue fixed no? The log has a "DVDVIDEO" in Drive0, is that correct? We would need logs from a buggy case to debug the issue...

Well I would have to say no, if you look at the attachments that I included that have the screen shots of the disk utility. It seems as if the media is being recognized but not automatically mounted and unmounted when installed and removed. It wasn't even recognizing the media when I made the bug report so I don't know what's changed there. As far as the automatic mount and unmount goes, I guess it's not that big a deal since I can do it from the disk utility. I would assume there's a way to do it in the terminal, but I don't know the command for it. What's puzzling to me is that it's just this one particular drive is the only one having this particular problem. The one directly below it, will recognize the media and automatically mount and unmount every time with no problem. It will automatically mount a disk if there's one in the drive at bootup, Friday; it mounted one time after bootup. I ejected it and pushed it right back in and it didn't mount it the second time. It seems to be an intermittent problem that seems to get worse the longer the computer runs for some reason.

I just wanted to add to this since there really hasn't been any change. It's not even recognising the media now, so it's just intermittent. There's a blank CD in that particular drive now.

The bug is old and Ubuntu changed quite a lot since, there has also been no activity here nor similar reports. Closing since we believe the issue as described is deprecated but feel free to file a new report if you still have problems in recent Ubuntu versions.
