Bug Description

in the previous version of ubuntu, my external drives appeared on my desktop and when i clicked on them they opened up with no problem. now, with ubuntu 11.10, my drives no longer appear on my desktop and when i click on them in the home menu, they open up media such as VLC player. my trash folder also does this.

also, the icons on my desktop appear jumbled and i have to organize them each time so that i can clearly see what the icons are.

Thank you for your bug report do you have a .local/share/applications/mimeapps.list in your user directory? what does it contain? it seems like a wrong user config rather than a nautilus bug

Hello Sebastien,

You won't believe this.

Earlier today, I ran updates that I have been alerted to by my computer. I
didn't restart the computer until after I got your email - about 15 minutes
ago - and once everything restarted, the problem was solved and everything
works as it should (as far as I know). Seriously.

I have had to run multiple system updates since switching over to Nautilus.
Perhaps those updates were not completed until now.

In any case, I no longer have the same problems that I had, and they were
solved, really, within the last 15 minutes.

Thanks for getting back to me. It's much appreciated, even if you didn't do
much.

Take care for now,
Brad
