I have 2 machines : a laptop running i386 architecture : NO problem
The second one runs amd64 archiecture and is affected by the problem.

Both has been upgraded from 11.04 to 10.10

Installing DropBox seemed to have restarted Nautilus, but just for ONE time.

Issuing nautilus in a terminal allowed Nautilus to run almost normally.

But after quitting (^C in the terminal), next invocations of nautilus crashed again with segmentation fault.

I have the same problem in a 64 bits Ubuntu 11.04. The problem seems related to Dropbox.

When Nautilus crashes, opening it from a terminal (with Dropbox opened) yields:

emrys@emryslaptop:~$ nautilus
** (nautilus:15647): DEBUG: SyncDaemon already running, initializing SyncdaemonDaemon object
Initializing nautilus-gdu extension
Initializing nautilus-open-terminal extension

(nautilus:15647): Gtk-CRITICAL **: gtk_action_set_visible: assertion `GTK_IS_ACTION (action)' failed

(nautilus:15647): Gtk-CRITICAL **: gtk_action_set_visible: assertion `GTK_IS_ACTION (action)' failed
Segmentation fault

If I close Dropbox and try again, Nautilus opens without problems, just a bunch of messages ("(nautilus:16882): GConf-CRITICAL **: gconf_client_get: assertion `GCONF_IS_CLIENT (client)' failed") in the terminal, but no crash.

Uninstalling Dropbox solved the problem for me

This is happening to me too. I'm not sure of the Dropbox thing either, I do have that installed. If I have time, I'll uninstall it and see.

This might be related to https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus-open-terminal/+bug/865115

After uninstalling nautilus-open-terminal, the problem ends. At least on a 11.10 64-bits.

Is that your case?

@Sunil, it's not necessary to uninstall Dropbox, just close it (Quit Dropbox) and see if that makes Nautilus stable.

This exact bug is effecting me too and I don't have drop box, but I do have nautilus-open-terminal installed, so it is likely that that is the culprit. I'll try uninstalling it and see how it goes over the next few days.

I fixed this bug by completely uninstalling Ubuntu one and reinstalling it.

Indeed just tested and it's definitely not cause by Dropbox but by nautilus-open-terminal for me. I uninstalled it and kept Dropbox running and now it working well.

Yes, the problem ends after installing ubuntuone-client-gnome 2.0.1-0ubuntu2

I am marking this as a duplicate of bug 865115 as it seems to be two different descriptions of the same problem with the same solution.
