Bug Description
One thing that doesn't really tie in with the spatial concept of nautilus, is
having to navigate so often to find the correct place to save a file. While
sometimes bookmarks work fine, they aren't the best for _very_ temporary uses.
If you just want to make several files in one folder, templates are far more
useful, but Gnome doesn't ship with any, and it's annoying to have to have to go
and save blank files from a load of different apps into ~/Templates.
Good solution: Templates are managed dynamically with vfs, new applications add
register their useful file types in some way, (/usr/share/
something, like /usr/share/
at will from their profiles, new installed apps will show their file types in
all users lists regardless, etc just like with other menus.
Easy solution: Dump a few common types in the user skeleton.
The 'Templates' directory is a user-only zone. If we start putting things in
there, packagers will start putting things in there, third party vendors will be
putting things in there, and it will all become as useless as the Windows 'New'
menu.
Yes, we need to have a better way for users to create templates, but we should
not preseed the Templates directory.
