Bug Description

Reverting back to having application menus in the application window instead of in the unity panel (inactivating global menus) causes a nautilus menu 'panel' be setup under the unity panel. In turn, the whole desktop is moved down the hight in pixels of the nautilus menu.

Test case:
1) remove package indicator-appmenu
2) logout and login again
A transparent unity panel makes the nautilus menu below visible.

The nautilus menu must not be setup, at least not if the unity panel is setup.

Not sure what package is affected so marking this on package unity.

Last time this issue happened it was when gtk+ had the 0px menubar fix so I think it could be gtk3 issue with out menu_proxy patch.

I've noticed the same (similar) issue for unity-2d, gnome-panel (fallback) and gnome-shell even though it's harder to reveil the nautilus menu behind those main panels. So it's more likely a nautilus/gtk issue.

so how the differences if you set "have file manager handle the desktop" to OFF on gnome-tweak-tool? on my oneiric, this option could hide the ugly nautilus's menubar from gnome-shell's desktop, but unfortunately unity-3d couldn't be loaded normally...

and gtk+3.0 had now applied advanced menu_proxy patches, on 3.1.10-0ubuntu3, but if we once rollback to 0ubuntu1, the issues solved!!

Unmarking this bug as a duplicate of #805252 as this bug has nothing to do with the appmenu issue.

This bug displays two (2) panels, one unity panel and another nautilus panel behind the unity panel. This is due when appmenu is uninstalled, ie when the global menu is removed.

The nautilus panel and its menus (File, etc) are not clickable but visible only when the unity panel is made transparent.

Yes, very likely.

The background behaves the same way, that is, moving down the height of the nautilus "panel" at login. So marking this one as a duplicate of bug #826771.
