Bug Description

Binary package hint: nautilus

I would like volumes and devices (global things) above the separator, and Home, Documents, etc. below the separator (my things) or some similar dichotomy. I would just like to point out that [Home, Desktop, Volumes, Trash, Documents, Downloads, ..] is a very haphazard ordering!

We need to fix the sidebar so it actually makes some logical sense.

Thanks Pete, I think that's a known issue, some similar open bugs are already open, ie bug #256359 "the sidebar volumes are not sorted alphabetically"

Hi Seb. Sorting alphabetically is different from sorting logically. Also, I'm really filing this bug to see if it will get picked up by the Hunderd Paper Cuts project. This comes from some feedback in a customer project.

Right, I though we had other bugs on the topic but didn't find them right now, anyway I would be happy to have design recommendation to improve this in maverick, seems a nice hundredpapercut task

Adding David Siegel as this was his idea. David, I think I did a very good job of explaining your vision. Anything else you want to add?

Many talented people are bringing design skills to bear on Nautilus at the moment so it's in good hands. I don't recommend that we make intermediate changes.

This has now been fixed upstream:

"This is now fixed in master; what has been implemented is basically [1], except
that we don't have the 'Recent' section, and 'Network' is a bit different from
what's in the mockup (we don't show nearby shares automatically).

The mandatory screenshot of the feature can be found here [2].

Closing as FIXED.

The bug has been set to fix committed for a few months now. As nautilus 3.0 is now in Oneiric I am closing it as fixed.
