Bug Description

Binary package hint: nautilus

When I unmount a memory card using the "Safely remove" context menu action, I cannot use the card reader again until I do a "cold" reboot (turn off the computer and turn it on again). The problem occurs with all memory cards and with both the SD and CF card slots.
I don't have the problem:
- with USB sticks or external hard drives plugged into a different USB port that is not in the card reader.
- when I use the "unmount" or "eject" context menu action.

I don't have any message in /var/log/messages when mounting a card fails.

I was able to reproduce this problem with a different card reader and with the kernel version from the Ubuntu 9.10 installation CD. The card reader is an internal card reader that is connected to a port on the motherboard.

I have this same problem, with an AFT XM-35u internal multi-card reader. (it's an internal drive that connects through motherboard USB headers)

lsusb -vv output and udisks --show-info for all applicable /dev/sdX files attached.

I am seeing this bug fixed as of 10.04 final. Marking incomplete to see if the original reporter is seeing the same thing.

I don't know about the original poster, but I do not think this bug is fixed as of 10.04 final, because I am having the same problem as of June 12th 2010. I'm using Lucid, in a fresh install from the AMD64 alternate cd, currently running kernel version 2.6.32-22-generic. The card reader in question is an Alcor high speed card reader, plugged into the USB bus on the motherboard. After using the "safely remove" option to unmount a card, none of the card slots on the reader will mount any card until a cold reboot is performed. I'm having this problem with the XD card slot, as well as the SD slot mentioned by the original poster. The eject option isn't causing this problem, and the unmount option didn't either, although it no longer shows up as an option for me.

It's still a problem for me too; i get the exact same results as with previous Ubuntu versions.

Is any further confirmation required to get the incomplete status removed from this bug? I'd rather this didn't slip through the cracks.
