I have changed the package to nautilus as this is a nautilus issue - this does not happen when using thunar.
This issue only occurs the first time "Computer" is selected from the Places menu after login and only if the "Extra Pane" (F3) view is being used.
This issue also occurs the first time "nautilus computer:///" is run from a terminal window after login if the Extra Pane view is selected.
After the error message is displayed & then dismissed, any further attempts to select "Computer" from the Places menu or to run "nautilus computer:///" from a terminal window work as expected.
$ uname -a
Linux ubuntu 2.6.32-13-generic #18-Ubuntu SMP Wed Feb 10 21:24:20 UTC 2010 i686 GNU/Linux
