Bug Description

Binary package hint: nautilus

Unable to choose the contact to send a file to when using "send to" in Nautilus while connected to Empathy.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Start Empathy and connect to at least one account
2. Open a Nautilus window
3. Right-click on a file
4. Select "Send to..."
5. In the "Send as" dropdown box, select "Instant Message (Empathy)"

Expected behaviour:
The "Send to" dropdown box should become active and contain the list of Empathy contacts currently connected.

Actual behaviour:
The "Send to" dropdown box is greyed out and no contact can be selected.

@guigui14100: you need Empathy to be started first, otherwise Nautilus doesn't have access to the list of contacts. To do that, click on the envelope at the top of your screen, select Empathy and wait for it connect. Once you've done that, you can send a file to a contact via Nautilus. It makes sense as it would be impossible to send a file without being logged in in the first place.

I'm changing it to "Invalid". Please feel free to re-open it if you feel that I missed something.

Bruno: Same problem if logged in on empathy. Cannot send a file to empathy. The "choose contact" option is greyed out.

It should always work even. If empathy has not started up yet, start up empathy, transfer and possibly quit after transfer. If it just fails when empathy hasn't started its a bad gui

I just added the "regression-potential" tag as this bug is present in Lucid but not in Karmic.

@Roman: this bug report is purely about not being able to send via IM even when Empathy is not started, which means the functionality doesn't work at all. Whether the functionality should also work when Empathy is not started yet is a usability issue and should be the subject of another bug so please feel free to file one.

it's not a bug then, it lists only contact to which you can send something which seems logical behaviour

@ sebastien

It won't allow selection of any AIM contacts either. Does empathy support filetransfert for AOL?
