Bug Description

Binary package hint: nautilus

1. 9.10
2. 1:2.28.1-0ubuntu2
3. I expect the contents of the directory to be displayed within a reasonable amount of time
4. The contents aren't completely displayed (I can get a complete list via 'ls' on the terminal) and I get an indefinite 'busy' cursor.

I think the problem might be because the thumbnails of the files. As the files are too big, the it tooks a long time to work with it.
Maybe you could check the configuration on Nautilos: Edit -> Preferences -> Preview and select that the preview has to be for files less than ... any amount you like.
I the problem persist please let me know.

Hi,
The settings are:

Show thumbnails: Local Files Only
Only for files smaller than: 10MB

...these look like the defaults, and quite reasonable. There are about 100 files in the problem directory, each roughly 1-2GB in size. I haven't looked at these preference settings before. So Nautilus ought to be ignoring all of these files, but it IS generating thumbnails for most of them. A bug perhaps?

Hi danieru,
that could be a bug.
Could you try:
copping some big files (one or two) another directory and wath if nautilus generate the thumbnails for those files.
If that is the case, the your nautils is ignoring the options set and that migth be a bug.
regards
malev

Hi,

I verified that the preferences were at "local files only" and "less than 10MB" and then copied several large files to another directory as you suggested. The files were all over 1GB. Nautilus did indeed generate thumbnails for the files. Let me know if I can provide you with more details.

Hi, danieru.
I've tried myself the same thing, but I've copied the files from one directory to another with the configuration set to 100K (I don't have bigger files) and the bound to the thumbnail seems to work really fine.
Could you try to load the directory from a clean user account.
Maybe there is an obstruct the thumbnail generator set. And in a clean account those "wherever" will be deleted.
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better.
