Bug Description

Binary package hint: nautilus

It would make things a lot friendlier to people coming over from the Mac if dragging removable volumes like CDs, pen drives, and IPods caused them to eject.

Currently there is no way to indicate to the user how to eject devices. Even Windows is better about this from a usability standpoint (an icon appears in the system tray and there's a notification bubble explaining to click it when you want to eject when you plug in a pen drive). Nautilus has no toolbar option for eject either. Only if the user thinks to right click the device to get more options will they find the ability to eject.

This would be a nice intuitive alternative that can probably be implented easily without needing to add any new wizards, etc.

Thanks for the suggestion. This is discussed upstream for more than three years now (http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=115763 might be one hint to the discussions), the idea has always been rejected. I don't think we're going to divert from upstream in this regard. Sorry.

That bug is still open, why is this bug closed as invalid?
Also, it is not true that the idea has always been rejected. It was arbitrarily rejected, for no good reason, once in 2005, by the project's maintainer.
Nevertheless, that bug is open and valid. Let’s say we are waiting for GNOME’s decision regarding this matter.
