Bug Description

When searching for a particular file in Nautilus explorer, it would be great if you could narrow down the search by typing test* in the Go to field. In this case, the behavior would be to list all files in the Nautilus current directory beginning with test. This is a very handy feature that will allow one to narrow down the search quickly without having to scroll down through every record to find what you want.

Not sure what the Go field is - do you mean the Location field?
I think that ones we get the toolbar editor [1] we could create a filter/quick search entry in the toolbar that filters the files in the view.

Thank you for bringing this bug to our attention. However, a paper cut should be a small usability issue , in the default Ubuntu 9.10 install , that affects many people and is quick and easy to fix. So this bug can't be addressed as part of the project.

a feature request is not a papercut
For further info about papercuts criteria , pls read > https://wiki.ubuntu.com/PaperCut

Don't worry though, This bug has been marked as "invalid" ONLY in the papercuts project.

Ok. I assumed it was a usability issue since users migrating from Windows would undoubtedly encounter it and it should not be that difficult to implement.

In Windows, users frequently use wildcards to narrow down lists of files/directories in Explorer. I found it very frustrating to work in Gnome as this function was missing and it is incredibly useful when you are trying to find something but dont want to scroll through millions of files.
