Bug Description

Binary package hint: nautilus

When I draged from file-roller archive and droped to nautilus, nautilus has been crashed.
Now I'm working on upgrade packages and I use uscan for update. After download .tar.gz uscan create a symlink to .tar.gz file. If I'll open any archive (not different a symlink or source .tar.gz) by file-roller, drag and drop to nautilus and... nautilus crashed.

error from .xsession-errors:
Gdk-ERROR **: The program 'nautilus' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadAtom (invalid Atom parameter)'.
  (Details: serial 10778 error_code 5 request_code 24 minor_code 0)
  (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line
option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)

I confirm the problem.

Using drag-n-Drop from FileRoller to Nautilus 2.27.4 cause nautilus to crash.

I had crash nautilus when I unpacked file from file-roller, but I used menu from file-roller, not drag and drop method. Apport notified me about it (LP: #405232).

Cosimo Cecchi committed a fix for this in Nautilus upstream HEAD, should be cherry-picked for 2.28.

it says "fix has been released"... where is the fix?
i'm using a new ubuntu karmic release from a day ago or so...
and i'm having the problem here, but not always.
i just plugged in my usb-memory and nautilus crashed while trying to drag and drop from file-roller.

hejkki (heikki-kniivila) wrote :

sorry, there is no 2.28.1-0ubuntu1 in karmic

ikus060 (ikus060) wrote :

Here with nautilus 2.28.0-0ubuntu7 it's working fine.
I test dnd from file-roller to nautilus and from nautilus to file-roller.

Chris Coulson (chrisccoulson) wrote :

Have you tested it with 2.28.1-0ubuntu1 yet?

hejkki (heikki-kniivila) wrote :

i did apt-get update && apt-get upgrade and i didn't notice that there is no 2.28.1-0ubuntu1.
where can i get it?

Jeff Sereno (jsereno) wrote :

I'm now using 1:2.28.1-0ubuntu7 and Nautilus still crashes when you drag a file from File Roller over the Places pane in the Nautilus window. If you drag AROUND the Places pane, Nautilus will not crash.

Attached is a screenshot illustrating my point.

Artur Rona (ari-tczew) wrote :

@Jeff Sereno: if you are not have 2.28.1, please don't writing "still crashes".

I have got:
file-roller 2.28.1-0ubuntu1
nautilus 1:2.28.1-0ubuntu

tested and - fixed!

Note: after update package nautilus please restart your system.

Jeff Sereno (jsereno) wrote :

@Artur Rona: My apologies - I misread the version number of the Nautilus package. Will update and re-test.

yep, updating to 2.28.1 fixed the bug here...

(althou I just noticed it now automatically merges folders and overwrites files without asking, but that's a different bug)
