Bug Description

Even with "Keep Aligned" selected for the desktop, all icons are not uniformly aligned. Please see the screenshot. I'm using Ubuntu Dapper Flt 4. Thanks.

Hi,

I can confirm this bug, when you drag an item from a folder to desktop, you can place it at any place you like.

I will open a upstream bug about this.

Bug continues with Flight 5. It's not a showstopper, but does fall under the "polish" category.

This began occuring after "removeable media" (anaother bug) were automatically added to the desktop. Even after aligned, Icons will"re-un-align" themselves on freash start-up

It appears to be the snap size that is the problem for keeping the icons aligned. I am not at all familiar with the code, but I did notice that the constants for snap sizes are 78 pixels horizontally, and 20 pixels vertically.

I changed the vertical snap size from 20 to 80, and it gave me a nice grid to work with for placing icons.

One more thing to note is that icons can be placed in the same grid location and overlap. Is this considered a separate bug?

I am attaching a patch against nautilus' svn repository. Feel free to use it as is, or use a different constant.

Hi,

Is there any simple way to apply the "patch against nautilus' svn repository" ? I'm not a total noob, but I'm not familiar with the svn. I could even to it manually, but I don't know where to look for the file (and recompile?). Please help, I'd love to use that patch.
