Bug Description

Binary package hint: nautilus

Hi!

Since one of the last updates (sorry, i don't know which one) it takes a very long time to start nautilus. When i do a check, everything seems to be OK:

kai@ubuntu-home:~$ nautilus -c
running nautilus_self_check_file_utilities
running nautilus_self_check_file_operations
running nautilus_self_check_directory
running nautilus_self_check_file
running nautilus_self_check_icon_container
running nautilus_self_check_file_utilities
running nautilus_self_check_file_operations
running nautilus_self_check_directory
running nautilus_self_check_file
running nautilus_self_check_icon_container

But when i make (in my homedir):

kai@ubuntu-home:~$ nautilus

Nothing happen for a long time (5 Minutes or so). Then nautilus will open. I think that maybe my harddisk is damaged. But every other application work fast (also midnight commander works fast in my homedir).

After 5 Minutes i will get the following output from nautilus:

kai@ubuntu-home:~$ time nautilus
Initializing nautilus-share extension
seahorse nautilus module initialized

** (nautilus:8548): WARNING **: Unable to add monitor: Nicht unterstützt
Nautilus-Share-Message: Called "net usershare info" but it failed: »net usershare« gab den Fehler 255 zurück: net usershare: cannot open usershare directory /var/lib/samba/usershares. Error No such file or directory
Please ask your system administrator to enable user sharing.

As attachment you will find my system information.

Thanks!

Best regards,
  Kai.

Thank you for your bug report. Could you please try creating a new user and seeing if you experience the same delay with a new user account?

I have done :) The problem: If gnome is once loaded nautilus will open fast (also if i logoff/logon). If i create another user and login immediate after reboot, it takes round about 5 minutes to open nautilus.

Also the background-picture i have selected for my dekstop will appear after round about 5 minutes.

Thats right for all users (also new created). When i make a "ps fax" before "embargo time" is over, is see that there was a gnome-mount Zombieprocess.

Thanks!

CU,
  Kai.

Hi again,

maybe this is a hint: When i do "ps fax" i see:

 7769 ? Dl 0:00 \_ nautilus --no-default-window --sm-client-id default2
 7842 ? Z 0:00 | \_ [gnome-mount] <defunct>

How can i debug gnome-mount ? There is nothing in /var/log/* from gnome-mount.

CU,
  Kai.

Hi!

I investigate a bit time to find out more about the above bug. Seems to be a "samba" related thing: My background picture is loaded from my sambaserver- If i put he background picture on my local harddisk there will be no delay...

Hmm...there is nothing special (samba server not reachable or so) in my logfile...i try to find out more ;)

Best regards,
  Kai.

Hi!

Seems to be the sambaserver that locks files. Please can you put this bug "on hold" until i know if bug

Thanks!
