Rhythmbox opens "Not Playing" after upgrade

Following an online upgrade from 8.04.1 to 8.10 Rhythmbox opens "Not Playing" when an audio CD is inserted or when selected from the Desktop icon. See attached screen shot.
Audio CD's play OK in Sound Juicer.

Action to create problem: Insert audio CD.
Expected result: Rhythymbox opens displaying track list and plays selected track when play button is clicked.
Actual result: Rhythymbox opens in "Not Playing" mode, see attached screen shot, and does not display track list.
